Adventures in the Klondike
Winter & Summer

Fishwheel Charter Services is a Dawson City First Nation tour operator. Tommy Taylor has spent his entire life on and around the Yukon River. He offers the area's most unique and authentic river experience in the summer months and winter adventure under the Northern Lights.

Summer Adventure

Based on traditional Han lifestyles, your two-hour tour starts in historic Dawson City. Before there was a Dawson, the Han people lived in harmony with the land.

Your first view of the village of Moosehide will remind you that this lifestyle still exists amidst the hustle and bustle of the modern world. Keep your camera ready! At any time moose, bears, eagles or other wildlife may make an appearance.

Thrill at the opportunity to visit Fort Reliance where you will see a rustic cabin and have a first-hand experience with a real, working dog team. Learn from your guide what it is like to operate and run a dog team.

Touring further downriver, keep an eye out for "fishwheels". You will likely see the bountiful salmon harvest, so important to the Han way of life for thousands of years. All summer, one salmon run after another is greeted by First Nation fishers in a cultural tradition that still survives.

You will get the opportunity at Dog Island to stretch your legs, savour some tea and bannock, and explore the Taylor family's traditional fish camp. Education was never so much fun!

The return journey upriver to Dawson is an opportunity to relive the majesty of the Yukon River and take in the vista before you. Don't miss the riverboat "graveyard". The time will pass all too quickly!

Winter Adventure

Whether viewing the Northern Lights, soaking up the pristine splendour of a Klondike winter or cozying up in a log cabin appeals to you, Fishwheel Charter Services offers the ultimate in winter adventure.

Picture yourself gliding over the Percy DeWolfe Mail Run Trail from Dawson to Eagle, Alaska. Listen to the excited sounds of the dogs as they bound along the trail, taking you farther and farther into the past and a beauty only the Yukon in winter can wear. Imagine lunching on hot tea and soup or whatever you've chosen to bring along while you bask in the Arctic sunshine and marvel at the crystal clear skies. A Klondike winter will redefine "white" forever in your mind.

Make your adventure last just a few hours or a few days (even longer) as all winter tours are custom made just for you. You supply the food. We supply the Yukon like few ever get to see it.

If you prefer, we can supply snowmobiles. Explore abandoned trapper's cabins. Catch sight of moose and other wildlife. Turn off your snow machine, lie back and drink in the Northern Lights. Some say the snap, crackle and hum. You be the judge.

Your winter adventure starts in historic Dawson City. Before you even get to our rustic cabin, the fun begins. Ground transportation to our camp is by snowmobile, one of the best ways to see the Klondike.

Tommy Taylor, your Han First Nation host, has lived on this land all his life. He can guide you and your party on your adventure or you can do it yourself. The options are yours. The Yukon winter will yield a beauty to you that is almost unparalleled anywhere else on earth. You will see why many consider winter the most beautiful season of the year.
